Lisa Freede on "Seen On"

This week, SeenON! connected with acclaimed jewelry designer Lisa Freede to dish about design inspiration and get her expert opinion on episode 8 of Bravo’s The Fashion Show. And who better to delve into the details of this business than someone who is already a celebrity favorite in the world of fashion and accessories? Read on as Lisa tells us like it is… and was.

SO!: In this week’s Harper’s Bazaar mini-challenge, the designers were quizzed on their knowledge of the fashion greats. How important do you think it is to know the complete history of a business before trying to break into it?
LF: That is rule #1. You must know the history before entering any business.
SO!: The designers were asked to pay homage to those revolutionary designers while still incorporating their own signature details in this week’s challenge. What traits of your jewelry collections reflect yourself and what is pulled from inspiration?
LF: My motto is clean and basic with a twist. I carry that concept through into my collections. The correct accessories can be worn with jeans to couture in the same day. Stacked laser thin crystal bangles- mixed in silver, yellow, and rose gold filled-and or a long pearl necklace wrapped several times. I’ve always been inspired by timeless classics in collections such as Chanel, YSL and Cartier to name only a few.
SO!: Isaac applauded the entire look Johnny gave his model – praising not just the dress but the hair and the shoes. What part do you think the accessories and styling play in determining how good a runway look is?
LF: Accessories say it all. They add, change, enhance and complete the runway look.
SO!: In the elimination, Reco was ridiculed for not knowing Halston while Haven was chastised for knowing YSL but executing him poorly. Which scenario do you think is worse?
LF: In my opinion, understanding the designer and executing that designer poorly is more bothersome to me.
SO!: Which of this week’s looks would you personally love to style for a photo shoot given the opportunity? How would you make it fresh?
LF: My choice is Johnny’s version of capturing Gianni Versace. To make it fresh, I would add leather and chain bracelets on one arm, then a thin black leather stud headband.

crispin & basilio
Elle crowned it “LA’s hottest label.” WWD named it a “designer to watch.” NYLON calls Manila-born designer Donny Barrios one of the “young talents changing the face of LA fashion.” We call it simply perfect. crispin & basilio is a truly inspired collection of edgy, sophisticated and practical pieces that display both beautiful draping and impeccable tailoring...
Mimi & Coco
Check our tank’s label on any given Sunday (or Monday, for that matter) and it’s likely to read Mimi & Coco. Not only because we love the story behind its brother-sister design team (pretty cute), but because these luxury Italian knits feel as fab as they look. Anita and Vincenzo Cavallo would have it no other way...

The masterminds behind the stunning French-inspired footwear line Pour La Victoire have done it again, this time with an eye on price, in keeping with the economic climate. More shoes for everyone!David Giordano and Jay Adoni introduced Kelsi Dagger (doesn’t that name just sound fierce?) in May 2009, with a focus on “sexy, aggressive styles that are feminine and beautiful.” Much like the celebrated PLV, Kelsi Dagger’s kicks have a fashion-forward, avant-garde appeal with intricately designed straps, in-your-face hardware and cutouts galore. Finding inspiration in everything from the women these shoes are named after to fanciful fowls (the jewel-toned fall collection was modeled after a peacock in Adoni’s backyard), the two men capture beauty and bring it to the masses. These flats, pumps, sandals, platforms and booties are so edgy, you might say they are sharp as, well, a dagger.
